Trailer Trash: Les Miserables
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
IT'S HERE!!!
Being that I'm kind of a musical theater nut, this particular project has been of great interest to me over the last few months, and this trailer pretty much alleviates whatever doubts I had.
First off, Anne Hathaway crooning out "I Dreamed a Dream" is damn good. Sure, she doesn't have the world's best voice, but she is doing it with such emotion that I really could care less.
And the fact that such a musical talent as Hugh Jackman is playing Jean Valjean makes it almost guaranteed that the songs in this will sting as much as they did on the stage.
It's a great trailer, showing off plenty of the epicness that the story is known for, while also showing plenty of the quieter, human moments, which look great. Tom Hooper no doubt has a lot to do with that.
Can't wait. Can't wait. Can it be December already?

Trailer Trash: Gangster Squad
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
One of my most anticipated of the year has finally beached, and is ready to be analyzed.
And, yeah, it seems a lot of my fears came to fruition.
First off, it seems director Reuben Fleischer is bringing in that slo-mo thing with the action that he used to decent effect on Zombieland and 30 Seconds or Less. Personally, I think said slo-mo will not work at all here. It's completely wrong for the subject matter and tone that this movie is going for. This trailer really sells this thing as a full bore action movie, which is not what I was hoping for.
Also, the lines of dialogue they choose to highlight here are AWFUL!!! Absolutely terrible.
"No ma'am. I was just hoping to take you to bed."
Are you kidding me? The fact that a tomcat like Ryan Gosling is the one uttering that line makes it only marginally better.
Like, what is being done to differentiate this movie from The Untouchables? It seems like the exact same movie. Granted, I still have hopes. The cast is way too good for a rote clone of that particular slice of gangster paradise. But I am far more wary now.

Trailer Trash: The Dark Knight Rises
It's time to root through some trailers. What's sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
It's rare that I do Trailer Trash two days in a row, but this is a special occasion.
Basically, it all makes sense. It all just clicked for me, what Christopher Nolan is trying to accomplish, what he is trying to say, why he chose that title. And, believe me when I say, he has already succeeded with this trailer alone. What we have here in these 2 minutes is one of the most intimate portrayals of a man, tired and at the end of his line, doing everything he can to be the hero the people deserve.
Bear in mind, that I'm talking about a trailer here, not the actual movie. If this is what the trailer provides us, then I can't wait to see what the full thing has in store.
Couple that with some jaw dropping imagery (the bridge explosion, anyone?), the fact that our perceptions of JoGo as a minor character seem completely off the mark, and some juicy shots of that quintessential, gritty, Nolan violence?
I didn't think I could anticipate this movie anymore, but I can. I can.

Trailer Trash: Prometheus
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
So this new one offers up plenty of sexy new info, providing new insight on what Charlize Theron's character is all about. It seems she's the resident Weyland-Yutani company prick who clearly knows more than she's telling. And then there are even more cryptic shots of what ever it is that is terrorizing the crew. What's that weird snake thing? And HOLY BALLS A DUDE'S FACE MELTS!!!
But, come on. What else do I have to say?
It's the new Prometheus trailer...
... and it will make you shit your pants!

Trailer Trash: Looper
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
Well, it's here.
The first trailer for Looper has arrived, and with it, our first look at what is sure to be one of my favorites of the year.
I could go on, on, and on about how the movie looks absolutely sexy, how the make up used to make JoGo a convincing younger version of Bruce Willis is sublime, how the fact that such a talented beauty as Emily Blunt is in this puts it even higher on the must watch list, how the action looks intimate and vicious, and how the concept burns with such blue fire intensity I can feel the sparks off it.
But, it would be fruitless, for someone else summed it all up for me, and did in less than ten words.

Trailer Trash: Ted & Total Recall
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
First off, a summer blockbuster.
Ok, the idea of a remake to a film I honestly didn't think all that much of is never a good starting point in my book, but this trailer has me interested. Not only does it evoke images of Blade Runner and Minority Report, it just looks flat out awesome.
Will there be actual substance? Probably not, but I have my hopes. Colin Farrell looks much more convincing as a confused everyman who just happens to be a killing machine than Arnold Complicated-Last-Name could ever hope to be, and Len Wiseman has a decent track record when it comes to riculous action.
So, yeah, count me as cautiously optimistic.
This one, on the other hand, has me sold, hook, line, and sinker!
It's the trailer for Ted.
Put simply, this just might be the funniest thing I've seen in a long time! I can't wait for this one!

Trailer Trash: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
Wait... this is a Twilight movie. Why am I here?
'attempts to leave'
'is pushed back on stage by a very large, gaggleing gang of twihards '
Fine.
So, Bella's a vampire. Which, at the very least, gives reasoning to the fact that she still sounds like a lifeless, soulless automaton.
Also, what the hell kind of creepy ass line is "We're the same temperature now."? You need to brush up on your swag Edward, I'm telling ya.
Is that good? Can I go now? I'm exhausted too much energy on this film.
'gets approval'
Good!

Trailer Trash: Wrath of the Titans
It's time to root through some trailers. what sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
Oh boy! The anticipation for this movie is off the charts! Can you feel it?
...
What? You can't? Oh, ok then. Suddenly this doesn't seem all that important.
Ok, so, apparently enough people got over the fact that Clash of the Titans was a mediocre piece of crap and saw a couple hundred times, since it made a lot of money. And now we have the sequel, which, honestly, looks to be copying the plot from Disney's Hercules. Anyone else getting that vibe?
That being said, I really like this trailer. This was sort of the same situation I found myself in when the first one was being promoted. The trailers made it out to be this incredibly bombastic action extravaganza. In reality, Clash of the Titans was surprisingly boring, with action that never really rose above average.
If Wrath is as relentless as this trailer makes it out to be, awesome! I'll pay top dollar for that. It's being directed by the guy who made the pretty relentless Battle: Los Angeles, so I'm not expecting anything in the realm of good story or acting, but as long as the adrenaline is coursing for most of it, then we won't have a problem.

Trailer Trash: The Dark Knight Rises
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
So, this one is gonna be two fold, as I had the good fortune to see the 6-minute prologue in front of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol this weekend, in addition to see the trailer that came out yesterday.
First off, the prologue. SPOILERS!!!
Much like the Dark Knight sequence that was shown before I Am Legend, depicting the Joker's opening bank robbery, the prologue to TDKR introduces to Bane, and the force that he is. Also starring Aiden Gillen, the sequence shows Bane as he hijacks a plane in order to kidnap a Russian scientist. This involves thrilling, practically made, aerial stunts and chaos. Bane is a ruthless adversary, savagely beating his foes, and having the plane dragged through the air by... another, bigger plane.
The sequence is so full of "HELL YEAH" moments, and looks awesome in IMAX. Christopher Nolan has proved that he can shoot IMAX action, and he looks to be pulling out all the stops for his final foray with Batman. If there's something bad to say about the sequence, if you can call it a bad thing, it's that I couldn't really understand what Bane was saying. I got that everything he was saying is very important, but the combination of the vocal choices by Tom Hardy, coupled with the mask... well, anyway. It was difficult to pick up what he was saying. Here's hoping Nolan and crew fix the audio, cuz then there'll be no problem.
The footage ended with a sizzle reel, showing off all the other characters, most of which made it into the new trailer. Speaking of which...
Love it! While it didn't make quite as a big an impression on me as the Dark Knight trailer revealing the Joker, it's still awesome. While I don't really understand how the League of Shadows comes into play, or how Bane facilitates it all, it seems that there's an undertone of class inequality to this one, with Selina Kyle's cryptic dialogue, and all the scenes of that posh masquerade.
Crazy things happen in this trailer. Tumblers scream down the streets. Explosions are everywhere. Massive riots erupt. Batman has an aircraft. And Bane kills a football team by... blowing up the field. AWESOME!! Also, JoGo's in it. Can this movie just happen already?
Also, I think I've figured out what Marion Cotillard's character is all about. Won't tell you about it here, lest I bring the wrath of the nerds down on me. Want to talk? You know where to find me.

Trailer Trash: The Snow Whites
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
So, I guess the new fairy tale on the block to receive the live-action remake treatment is Snow White, as we have, not one, but two takes on the classic tale coming down the pipe.
First we have Snow White and the Hutsman, which initially looked exactly like Red Riding Hood, i.e., a teen angst fueled "interpretation" of a classic fable. While the inclusion of Kristen Stewart brings some of that in, the rest looks surprisingly well done. We have Charlize Theron playing head bitch as the Queen, and Chris Hemsworth as the titular huntsman who tracks down Snow White and apparently joins her cause. This looks to be a decent, high adventure, with plenty of battles and fantasy.
And then we have Mirror, Mirror. Uh... ok? Where to begin with this one? This looks terrible. Absolutely atrocious! Very disappointing when you consider who'd involved. It's being directed by Tarsem Singh, who just gave the highly entertaining Immortals, and stars Julia Roberts, Sean Bean, Lily Collins, Nathan Lane, and Armie Hammer. Despite all that goodness, this movie looks awful. It seems they are going for a bubbly comedy, but all the jokes here suck, big time! It's not even visually interesting, which, given Singh's involvement, is really shocking. Not looking forward to this one.
I can't believe I'm more excited for a movie starring Bella Swan than a movie staring Ned Stark, but... oh well. C'est la vie!

Trailer Trash (Sort Of): Piranha 3DD
It's time to root through some... well not really.
So, this is just a clip taken from some dude who was recording the Spike Scream Awards on his Tivo, or something.
Anyway, it's the world premiere of the teaser for Piranha 3DD, the sequel to the surprisingly well received Piranha 3D. This one sees the ravenous little buggers leaving the lake and attacking a water park.
Ok then...
According to this trailer, there will be more blood, more boobs, and... more Ving Rhames?
Hold on, didn't he die in the last one?
Nope, he just got his legs gnawed off. So, how does he remedy this?
Shotguns for legs.
Also, is that David Hasselhoff?
'checks IMDB'
IT IS DAVID HASSELHOFF!
Ok, this movie has my attention.

Trailer Trash: The Avengers
STOP EVERYTHING!!!! WATCH THIS!!!
It's the first trailer for the superhero epic, The Avengers! Everything Marvel has done for the past 5 or so years (excluding X-Men), has been building up to this, and, if this trailer is anything to go, it's gonna be spectacular!
For a teaser trailer, this one is pretty great. Really epic, while adequately setting up the conflict. Let me tell ya, Loki looks so much more badass here than he did in Thor.
Man, I can't wait!

Trailer Trash: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
OH!!! HELL!!! YES!!!
After the pants tightening first trailer for this David Fincher adaptation, this extended, 3+ minute, beast is just what we need to whet the appetite. It shows off enough of the plot while still be keeping an air of mystery, while introducing the characters without giving too much away.
It looks sick, the actors all look to do a fine job, and Trent Reznor's music is aces! More please!

NEW TRAILER FOR A JOGO MOVIE!!! NEW TRAILER FOR A JOGO MOVIE!!! NEW TRAILER FOR A JOGO MOVIE!!! NEW TRAILER FOR A JOGO MOVIE!!!
Gonna keep it brief, since I'm just delaying you watching this gem, but this trailer is pretty great. The film seems to be taking on a very Cellular feel, with a normal person shoved headfirst into a crazy and life-threatening situation, the only difference being is that here the person is a crazy NYC bike messenger.
JOGO's in it, and so is Michael Shannon! I'm in all the way. This movie looks awesome!

Trailer Trash: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
The first Ghost Rider is one of the worst comic book movies ever. No easy feat, when you put it in perspective, so any news of a sequel, for me, was met with almost obscene trepidation. Now, I am still counting on this sucking, and sucking hard. Nic Cage alone almost guarantees that, but there is something working in its favor and it goes by a three worded name.
Neveldine and Taylor.
Oh yes. The guys who made the absurdly entertaining Crank movies are back, bringing their own strand of social justice or whatever it is that they do to Marvel's demonic badass. Crank was a pretty ridiculous, if formulaic, action film, and Crank 2 single handedly threw up the biggest finger to mainstream action films ever! Who knows? Maybe Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be passable. The trailer shows off more interesting action in its 2 minutes than was in the whole first movie, and that image at the end of Nic Cage pissing fire is weirdly awesome.
Whatever.

Trailer Trash: The Woman In Black
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
Continuing your career after staring in a huge hit is one thing. Continuing your career after being the title character in the biggest money grubbing franchise of all time is something else. But, that is exactly what Daniel Radcliffe is attempting to do with The Woman in Black, a project that could not be more different from that fantastical epic of wizards and magic.
As a first trailer goes, this one is aces. Very atmospheric and reeeeeeeally scary, The Woman in Black looks to be a more restrained and foreboding breed of horror movie. Then again, I just might think of that because all we hear in the trailer is weird violin noises and a creepy child reciting some limerick about the titular specter. But, for a little piece of advertisement to get me intrigued, this does the trick.

Trailer Trash: The Darkest Hour
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
Timur Bekmembetov returns, ready to put his own fresh spin on a storied concept. The Darkest Hour sees a bunch of American tourists trapped in Moscow in the aftermath of a devastating alien invasion. The invaders in question feed off electricity, are invisible to the human eye, and have a cool ability where they instantly disintegrate any life form they touch. Basically, the world is fucked!
The cast looks strong, manned by talented character actors, and Bekmembetov's trademark visual flair looks to be firing on all cylinders. Maybe it will sputter in execution, but for now, this looks like one of the more interesting flicks coming out in the near future.

Trailer Trash: In Time
It's time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
Comic-Con brought us a lot of interesting of stuff, as per us'. One of the most enticing things to be revealed at this year's event was In Time, which boasts and interesting premise.
The plot seems to borrow from things like Logan's Run and... I don't know what else. Anyway, it seems very curious and action packed and it looks like Amanda Seyfried gets naked. And Cillian Murphy plays a bad guy. What's not to like.
It's a stylish trailer. The CGI of the film seems minimalistic at best, mixed in with more practical stuff. I'm excited. This one should prove to be intriguing.
