2011: The Retrospect: Top 5 Best Lines

Let's start off with a fun one.

Line delivery is one of the oft overlooked pieces of performance. A script can be a big pile of nothing, but a talented actor can hide that with a well done line. So, with that in mind, here are the top 5 lines of 2011, as decided by me and my committee of one here at the black hole! These are the best of line delivery and script writing

5. "No subject is terrible if the story is true, if the prose is clean and honest, and if it affirms courage and grace under pressure." (Corey Stoll from Midnight In Paris)

Well, yeah. Not every line on this list needs to be a witty punch line or some verbally clever use of the english (or otherwise) language. This line makes the cut because it, quite simply, true. And the best ones are the ones that speak truth about an aspect of human life. Props to Woody Allen and Stoll's blunt, honest delivery.

*This clip doesn't have that line, but that blunt, honest delivery? Yeah, that's still there.

4. "I have a demon in me." (Ed Helms from The Hangover: Part II)

The Hangover: Part II will be making another appearance in this retrospective, though not in any praise worthy position. I can't however deny the dry wit and absurdity of these six words, dry wit and absurdity that the rest of the movie desperately needed.

3. "No one likes putting a dick in their mouth." (Seth Rogen from 50/50)

Rogen is a master of line delivery, and even though 50/50 was a little lighter on the laughs than I think most people expected, the humor was still prevalent thanks to winners like this.

2. "I drive." (Ryan Gosling in Drive)

So cool. So calculated. Everything about this line just oozes steely sociopathy. Wonderful. Just wonderful.

1. "I need a horse." (Chris Hemsworth in Thor)

Well said!

Tune in tomorrow for the best posters of the year, and be sure to hit up 2011: The Retrospect for all your 2011 memory jogging. See y'all tomorrow!

In Need of a Horse

Time to break out my prediction hat, because Summer 2011 has begun. Though I am late to the party on this one, I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to judge. Anyway, as you no doubt are aware, I make a habit of predicting how the summer will turn out, movie-wise, based on how the first big show stopper does. Now last year, I royally screwed the pooch by predicting that, with Iron Man 2 starting things off strong, the season would be good. As we all know, Summer 2010, Inception notwithstanding, sucked a big fat one. Well, I hope I'm not wrong again, because if the kick off is anything to go on, Summer 2011 should be great! The kick off is Thor, the latest entry in Marvel's elaborate and ambitious cinematic universe. It's campy, over the top, and ridiculous. It's also spectacular!

Trailer Trash: Super Bowl Spot Roundup

Congratulations to Green Bay! I know Kai is living the good life right now!

Sunday! Super Bowl Sunday! A day where the lewdest and crudest of people get together to watch the tube, cheer for their team, pound beer, and gain a collective MILLION pounds in chips and dip! It's all about the game on Super Bowl Sunday!

HAHAHA!!! What a laugh! Who are we kidding? No one gives a crap about the game! Ask someone what their favorite part of the game is, and chances are they'll say the commercials, and they'd have every right to. Super Bowl commercials kick ass!

We had plenty of juicy spots for upcoming films at this year's game. See the breakdown here!

2010: The Retrospect: Top 5 Most Anticipated of 2011

We're almost done.

What kind of retrospect would this be if I didn't at least touch on what was about to come. In the past, all I've done is list off some movies that would be gracing our presence in the coming year. Well, now, since I'm getting nominated for awards whatnot, I'm going to focus on the year to come with it's very own post! Man. I'm legitimate! Seriously though, 2011 looks like it will answer a lot of cinematic questions, questions regarding superheroes, robots, wizards, and Mel Gibson. These are my Top 5 Most Anticipated Films of 2011!

Trailer Trash: Thor

It's time to root though some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?

...

It's Thor! A Norse God goes around wrecking shit for two hours. And, it's directed by Kenneth Branagh! What the hell else do you need to know?
