The Duel

  1. I don't mind Levitt and he's appeared in some great movies (Inception, The Lookout). However, I'm taking Gosling here by a nose. Looking at their careers so far, Gosling has more strong performances that make their movies than Levitt.

  2. It's hard because Gosling just did Drive. Otherwise I would say it was a hands down Jo-Go win. Gosling always plays a huge hassle of a character who thinks he's way cooler than he is and is willing to bother you to death until you think so too. Jo-Go was in Angels in the Outfield.

  3. JoGo has a wider range than Gosling. Gosling has two types: Overly Enthusiastic/Look At Me, I'm Being Silly (The Notebook, Remember the Titans) and Broody Staring Off Into Nowhere (Drive, Blue Valentine, Half Nelson). I love a lot of Gosling's films but Levitt takes better chances and delivers better and more interesting performances. (Scott from Frankly, My Dear)

  4. Oooh tough decision. Their both talented actors. Ryan Gosling has really become the 'it' guy over the last year. He's yet to disappoint me with his characters, although as Scott pointed out they seem to be limited at the moment.

JGL's got a lengthier resume and has shown he can do pretty much any role you lay in front of him (Brick, Shadowboxer, 50/50). That gives him the edge over the Gos.

  5. I haven't seen enough of either to truly judge ... but off the bat I say Gosling. Jo Go is a poster boy - something for the girls. Gosling is challenging and imperfect and I like that!

  6. Wow. Was not aware of the Gosling hate in the world.

I for one, don't really know. I love both equally. They both did career best with DRIVE and 50/50 respectively, and they look like they are just getting better.

Ai Yi Yi, why do the man crushes always have to be the hardest ones to decide on?

  7. I'm in a similar position to Simon - I haven't seen enough of their respective bodies of work to say for sure, but from what I have seen I lean more towards Gosling. Haven't seen DRIVE or 50/50 yet.

  8. Gosling is probably the bigger acting heavyweight (and I dig the guy and his work a lot), but I prefer JoGo more still.
