Time to root through some trailers. What sorts of wonderful things will be alluded to today?
Steve Carrell, at least to me, doesn't get the proper amount of props as a dramatic actor that he should. Sure, he's most well known for not getting laid for forty years and for inviting Christina Applegate to the "pants party", but he can do serious stuff when called upon. Look at Little Miss Sunshine. Hell, look at Dan In Real Life.
Anyway, he looks to be tapping into the dramatic well for Crazy, Stupid, Love, a rom-com with seemingly darker aspirations. Sure, it's a plot we've seen in countless flicks, but the cast included suggests something a bit more mature. Sure, we have Carrell, and we have Emma Stone. But, we also have Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon. A cast that strong certainly has me intrigued.
What did I think of the trailer? Uh... they played one of Muse's best songs in it. Of course I loved it. I'm just wondering if the "Muse Trailer Music" curse that sunk Knight and Day and The Tourist will have any effect on this. We'll just have to wait and see.

They Have Issues Too
LAST REVIEW OF A BEST PICTURE NOMINEE! JUST IN TIME!!! I AM AWESOME!!!
What is it about dysfunctional families that always make them to topic of a dry, ironic, witty indie comedy with darker undertones? I thought the trend bucked with Little Miss Sunshine, but, lo and behold, we have another of this devilish subgenre vying for Best Picture rights this year. The Kids Are All Right paints the whole "kooky family" thing in a new light by having both parents be gay, and layers this new idea onto strong writing and good performances. However, I do have something to say before we keep going. All you people out there who heralded this as the best thing ever, and how Annette Bening totally deserves that Oscar over everyone else, I say to you. CALM DOWN!!!!!

Taking It Too Far
I am shocked! I am appalled! I am enraged! Now, look. No one enjoys a sex thriller more then me. Your brain gets teased, you see some good performances, and some lovely ladies usually shed their clothes, which is only icing on the cake. Films like Fatal Attraction and Unfaithful are stalwart examples of the genre. It's been awhile since we've had a good one though. The new film, Chloe, seeks to fill the void. Now, not only does Chloe fail at filling that void, it also fails as a movie, just in general. Here is a film, so pointless and stupid, that not even the most overly generous of critic will be able to find something to like. This critic does not consider himself to be overly generous. This is going to be fun!
